RS232 interface

The ZSOM-Control and the ZSOM-Mini each provide one RS232 interface. It is based on a serial port of the sbRIO-9651 and an RS232 transceiver.

Wiring

Connect TX of the ZSOM to RX of the device and RX of the ZSOM to TX of the device; always connect GND.
ZSOM-Control: connect RTS/CTS crosswise as well if the device uses hardware handshake.
Keep the cables short; RS232 is intended for distances of a few meters. For longer distances use RS422/RS485.

Usage in LabVIEW

The interface is a serial port of NI Linux Real-Time and is used from RT code with the NI-VISA serial functions (VISA Configure Serial Port, VISA Write, VISA Read).
